"Man has become like one of us ..."

Here's an interesting question for you readers ...

In Genesis 3:5, what did it mean for Satan to tell Eve, "God knows that when you eat of [the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil] your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil"? What does it mean to know good and evil, and how would Adam and Eve "be like God" in knowing good and evil? Was there a grain of truth in what Satan said, or was he deceiving Eve (or both)? How did God know good and evil in a way Adam and Eve originally didn't?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this!

Until this incident, they didn't know anything about evil. They knew only about good, not good and grace. God told Adam not to eat the fruit, didn't say anything about touching it (Eve somehow came up with the touching bit). Eve had acquired her knowledge secondhand from Adam since she was made after God told Adam about the tree. Well, it was pretty brave to touch it, but once she did that and was still alive, then taking that first bite was easier. After Adam saw that Eve had eaten and not died, then it was easier for him to eat also. (God didn't lie, they eventually did die on this 7th day, the day of rest). Evil is doing something that leads to harm, misfortune, injury, etc. which is what happened to the both of them when God kicked them out of the Garden of Eden. Since God knows all, then He already knew evil in that He knows all future misfortunes. So now Adam and Eve and God all knew about evil. This was all a plan to teach Adam and Eve about Evil and to get them to understand their humanness (nakedness) which lead to procreation. God wasn't angry at Adam and Eve or even the serpent. He simply told them how it was going to be outside the Garden of Eden; even gave Adam and Eve better clothing for the outside world. The serpent was made by God and referred to as a serpent, not as Satan. The serpent had a role to play and he played it well. God didn't curse the serpent, he just told him that after this he'll be leading a cursed life. Good and evil are not opposites. It's Good vs. Not Good and Evil vs. Grace. It's the threat of death that motivates us to live.

God's knowledge of evil is not experiential, but providential.
He did not provide man with evil, but He made provision for a realm (darkness) to temporarily accomodate it. Goodness abides within a realm (light)separate from evil.Having given man free will, He was well aware of the potential for man to choose evil rather than good and that he would do so. He fully understands evil as the condition of anything from which His goodness has departed.

Man's knowledge of good and evil is experiential thru disobedience and self-will resulting in the awakening of the conscience and the departure from the state of innocence.

I'm more curious to know who was the "us" in "Man has become like one of us"?

The 'US" in the narrative refers to other divine beings, deities, that accompanied God in the Creation. The Hebrew 'elohim' is a masculine plural for god that is properly rendered '[the] Gods.'

Good day! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering which blog
platform are you using for this site? I'm getting tired of Wordpress because I've had issues with hackers
and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
